buspartnerglobe The GRIBTool is a customized raster format DLL which enables METOC weather files stored in the Gridded Binary Format Edition 1 (GRIB 1) to be read directly into ESRI’s ArcGIS 9.x suite and the C/JMTK 9.x environment, without the need for grid data conversion to another format such as NetCDF, shape file, image, or grid.

Additional metadata support functionality is provided by GRIBTool through the integration of a Metadata display window within the ArcView interface. This enables analysts to have easy access to the metadata information about their displayed METOC files, including the name, date and time of the forecast model run, the production center which produced the data, and data measurement units.
Geospatial analysts can now have the capability to incorporate GRIB weather data directly into complex queries and situational modeling scenarios using the functionality of tools supplied by the ArcGIS suite, including Spatial Analyst and Model Builder.

The current edition of the GRIBTool was designed to read single METOC grib files which are compliant with the World Meteorological Organization’s data exchange format Form 92-XI Ext. GRIB (GRIdded Binary) Edition 1. Further development is planned to expand the GRIBTool to support GRIB Edition 2. Support for the Pennsylvania State University / National Center for Atmospheric Research (PSU/NCAR) mesoscale model known as MM5, is also planned.
